Coverage: UnitedHealthcare in Texas

Medication management in Texas, in network with UnitedHealthcare.

Texans with UnitedHealthcare coverage can receive psychiatric medication care here, by secure telehealth, anywhere in the state. As with some other large insurers, UnitedHealthcare members often meet a second name, Optum, on their behavioral health benefits. This practice is in network with UnitedHealthcare and Optum. Your coverage is verified and your exact cost stated before the first visit, so the plan's structure is the practice's problem, not yours.

PsychMed Care is the medication management practice of Solutions Psychiatry. If you are looking for therapy, or therapy and medication together, the full practice is at psych.us.

What in network means here

UnitedHealthcare for the card, Optum for the benefit

UnitedHealthcare is among the largest insurers in the country, and its mental health benefits are commonly administered by Optum, its sister company. Knowing which name a directory uses saves a failed search.

Why Optum is listed too

Optum administers behavioral health benefits for many UnitedHealthcare plans. If your plan's mental health directory or explanation of benefits says Optum, the coverage is the same coverage, and this practice is contracted with UnitedHealthcare and Optum.

Verified before the first visit

Booking triggers the check: your plan is read against the practice's contract, and your copay or deductible position is stated before the appointment. A plan that does not verify is reported as such, with the self-pay rates as the stated fallback.

Copay, or deductible first

Most in-network patients pay a copay of $0 to $40 per visit. Some UnitedHealthcare plans apply a deductible before that copay starts; early visits then bill at the contracted rate. Verification tells you which pattern your plan follows, with the number attached.

One list, reviewed whole

Prescribing here starts from your complete medication list: what each medicine is for, what it has done, and what it may be doing to the others. Duplicates and interactions are looked for on purpose, labs are drawn at any lab near you, and GeneSight testing enters the conversation when the trial history says it should.

If things reach the point of thoughts of harming yourself, help is available now: call or text 988, text HOME to 741741 for Crisis Text Line, or call the NAMI Helpline at 1-800-950-6264. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. This practice is not an emergency service. The crisis page lists more options.

Care in Texas

Texas care that meets you where you live

A Texas patient can live closer to another state capital than to Austin. Telehealth is how this practice answers that: secure video appointments from your home, your office, or wherever in Texas you have a door to close. The Austin office, at 5900 Balcones Drive STE 100, exists for the in-person visits that federal or DEA requirements sometimes call for, and those are arranged with you in advance. Your prescriber is Dr. Karel Winner, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University and a graduate degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Medicare is also accepted in Texas.

How it starts

Booked, verified, seen

Nothing is scheduled on a guess: the plan is read first, and the visit follows the answer.

Book the first appointment

Pick a time online or by phone and enter your insurance details, which start the verification.

Your plan is checked

UnitedHealthcare or Optum coverage, copay, and deductible are confirmed and stated before the visit.

The first appointment

A 60-minute evaluation: history, health, medication record, and a plan with a target. Follow-ups are 30 minutes of measurement and adjustment.

Cost and coverage

What it costs, and what your plan covers

Care starts with a 60-minute Comprehensive Initial Appointment at $350, and Follow-up Appointments run 30 minutes at $250 each. Insurance usually carries most of that: copays are typically $0 to $40, and your coverage and your exact cost are verified before your first visit, so the figure is settled before anything is scheduled on its strength. In network: Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, the Blue Cross Blue Shield family, Oscar, Oxford, Carelon, and Providence, plus Medicare in Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas, and Utah, and Medicaid in Oregon and Wyoming. Visits are by secure telehealth in 34 states plus DC, for ages 17 and up. You can book here, or call (800) 303-3221.
