Coverage: Cigna in Texas

Medication management in Texas, in network with Cigna.

If your card says Cigna and you live in Texas, your psychiatric medication care can run here: by secure telehealth, anywhere in the state, with your coverage verified and your exact cost stated before the first visit. One wrinkle is worth explaining at the start: for many Cigna members, behavioral health benefits are administered under the name Evernorth. This practice is in network with Cigna and Evernorth, so both names lead to the same door.

PsychMed Care is the medication management practice of Solutions Psychiatry. If you are looking for therapy, or therapy and medication together, the full practice is at psych.us.

What in network means here

Two names, one coverage

Patients reasonably ask why the insurer list says Cigna and Evernorth, as if they were two carriers. They are one company wearing two labels, and the second label is the one that shows up on mental health paperwork.

Why Evernorth appears

Evernorth is the health services side of the Cigna group, and it administers behavioral health benefits for many Cigna plans. If your explanation of benefits or your plan's provider search shows Evernorth for mental health, that is the same coverage this practice is contracted under.

Verified before the first visit

At booking, your plan is checked against the practice's Cigna and Evernorth contract, and your copay or deductible position is stated before you are seen. If a plan does not verify, you hear it plainly, with published self-pay rates as the honest fallback.

The copay, and the deductible behind it

Most in-network patients here pay a copay between $0 and $40 per visit. On deductible plans, early visits bill at the contracted rate until the deductible is met. Which of those is yours is answered at verification, in numbers, before the first appointment.

Medication care, kept together

One prescriber manages your full medication list, orders labs drawn at any lab near you, and considers GeneSight testing when the history suggests it. Nothing about the plan changes how carefully the prescribing is done.

If things reach the point of thoughts of harming yourself, help is available now: call or text 988, text HOME to 741741 for Crisis Text Line, or call the NAMI Helpline at 1-800-950-6264. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. This practice is not an emergency service. The crisis page lists more options.

Care in Texas

Texas is big. Your care does not have to be far.

Appointments are by secure video from anywhere in Texas, which matters in a state where the nearest prescriber can be a half day of driving. The practice keeps an office in Austin, at 5900 Balcones Drive STE 100, for the in-person visits federal or DEA requirements sometimes call for, scheduled with you ahead of time. Your prescriber is Dr. Karel Winner, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University and a graduate degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Medicare is also accepted in Texas.

How it starts

Booked, checked, then seen

The coverage check is not paperwork after the fact. It is the second step, before the visit.

Book the appointment

Choose a time through the booking link or by phone, and enter your insurance details. Those details start the verification.

Your Cigna plan is verified

Coverage, copay, and deductible are confirmed and told to you before the visit, in plain numbers.

The first appointment

Sixty minutes on your history, your health, and your medications, ending in a plan. Follow-up Appointments are 30 minutes of measurement and adjustment.

Cost and coverage

What it costs, and what your plan covers

The first appointment is a 60-minute Comprehensive Initial Appointment at $350. Follow-up Appointments run 30 minutes at $250 each. Most patients here use insurance: copays are typically $0 to $40, and your coverage and your exact cost are verified before your first visit, so the number is known before you commit to anything. In network: Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, the Blue Cross Blue Shield family, Oscar, Oxford, Carelon, and Providence, plus Medicare in Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas, and Utah, and Medicaid in Oregon and Wyoming. Care is by secure telehealth in 34 states plus DC, for ages 17 and up. You can book here, or call (800) 303-3221.
