Coverage: Cigna in California

Medication management in California, in network with Cigna.

Californians carrying Cigna coverage can get psychiatric medication care here, by secure telehealth, anywhere in the state. One naming point first, because it confuses people every week: behavioral health benefits for many Cigna members are administered by Evernorth, the Cigna group's health services arm. This practice is in network with Cigna and Evernorth. Your plan is verified, and your exact cost stated, before the first visit.

PsychMed Care is the medication management practice of Solutions Psychiatry. If you are looking for therapy, or therapy and medication together, the full practice is at psych.us.

What in network means here

The Cigna and Evernorth question, answered

If your plan's mental health directory sent you looking for Evernorth while your card says Cigna, you were not reading it wrong. The two names describe one coverage, and this page is where it lands.

One company, two labels

Cigna is the insurer on your card. Evernorth is the name the same group puts on much of its behavioral health administration. A search under either name should lead to in-network care; this practice is contracted with both.

Verified before the first visit

When you book, the plan behind your card is checked against the practice's contract, and your copay or deductible position is stated before the appointment. A plan that cannot be verified is named as such, with the self-pay rates shown instead of a shrug.

What you will actually pay

Typically, a copay between $0 and $40 a visit. If your plan applies a deductible first, early visits bill at the contracted rate until it is met. Verification tells you which pattern is yours, and the figure, before you commit to the hour.

Prescribing that reads the whole chart

The prescriber here reviews every medication you take, not only the psychiatric ones, watches for interactions, and orders labs drawn at any lab near you when a decision turns on them.

If things reach the point of thoughts of harming yourself, help is available now: call or text 988, text HOME to 741741 for Crisis Text Line, or call the NAMI Helpline at 1-800-950-6264. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. This practice is not an emergency service. The crisis page lists more options.

Care in California

Care across California, without crossing California

Telehealth appointments run statewide, so a patient in Redding and a patient in San Diego get the same hour with the same prescriber. The practice keeps an office in San Francisco, at 220 Montgomery St #600, used for in-person visits when federal or DEA requirements call for one, always arranged in advance. Your prescriber is Karel Winner, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University, who also holds a graduate degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Medicare is also accepted in California.

How it starts

From booking to the first hour

Three steps, and the money question is answered in the second one, not the fourth.

Book a time

Online or by phone. The insurance details on the booking form are what the coverage check runs on.

Hear your exact cost

Cigna or Evernorth coverage, copay, and any deductible are confirmed and stated before the visit.

The first appointment

A full 60 minutes: history, health, medication record, and a plan with a target. Follow-ups run 30 minutes and measure how the plan is doing.

Cost and coverage

What it costs, and what your plan covers

The first appointment is a 60-minute Comprehensive Initial Appointment at $350. Follow-up Appointments run 30 minutes at $250 each. Most patients here use insurance: copays are typically $0 to $40, and your coverage and your exact cost are verified before your first visit, so the number is known before you commit to anything. In network: Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, the Blue Cross Blue Shield family, Oscar, Oxford, Carelon, and Providence, plus Medicare in Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas, and Utah, and Medicaid in Oregon and Wyoming. Care is by secure telehealth in 34 states plus DC, for ages 17 and up. You can book here, or call (800) 303-3221.
