Coverage: Aetna in California
Medication management in California, in network with Aetna.
For Californians with Aetna coverage, this page explains how psychiatric medication care works here: by secure telehealth, anywhere in the state, with your plan verified and your exact cost stated before the first visit. PsychMed Care is the medication management practice of Solutions Psychiatry, and Aetna is one of the plans it is contracted with. What follows is the honest version, including the parts most practice websites leave vague.
PsychMed Care is the medication management practice of Solutions Psychiatry. If you are looking for therapy, or therapy and medication together, the full practice is at psych.us.
What in network means here
What the Aetna contract does for you
A contract between a practice and an insurer is mostly invisible when it works. You feel it as a copay you were told in advance, a claim that processes the way it was described, and no balance bill doing repair work later.
Verified before the first visit
Booking starts the check: your Aetna plan is read against the practice's contract, and your copay or deductible position is stated before you are seen. If the plan cannot be verified, you are told plainly, and the published self-pay rates are the fallback, never a guess.
California Aetna plans vary widely
Aetna covers Californians through big employers, small groups, and the individual market, and the benefits differ more than the cards suggest. The name on the front is where verification starts; the plan document behind it is what decides your cost, and that is what gets checked.
Deductibles, in plain numbers
On plans where a deductible applies to specialist care, the first visits bill at the contracted rate until it is met. You are told whether your plan works that way, and what the contracted figure is, before the first appointment, so the arithmetic is yours before it is the insurer's.
One prescriber, the whole list
Medication care here is not split across an in-network directory. The same prescriber reviews every medicine you take, orders labs drawn at any lab near you, and adjusts one thing at a time, so cause and effect stay readable.
If things reach the point of thoughts of harming yourself, help is available now: call or text 988, text HOME to 741741 for Crisis Text Line, or call the NAMI Helpline at 1-800-950-6264. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. This practice is not an emergency service. The crisis page lists more options.
Care in California
California care, from one end of the state to the other
California runs about 800 miles top to bottom, and psychiatric prescribers are not spread evenly across it. Care here is by secure telehealth wherever you are in the state, with an office kept in San Francisco, at 220 Montgomery St #600, for the in-person visits that federal or DEA requirements occasionally call for, arranged in advance rather than sprung on you. Your prescriber is Karel Winner, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University, who also holds a graduate degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Medicare is also accepted in California.
How it starts
Three steps, in order
Nothing here starts with the appointment itself. It starts with your coverage, on purpose.
Book
Choose a time online or by phone, and give the insurance details the booking form asks for. That information is what verification runs on.
Hear your number
Your Aetna coverage and your exact cost are confirmed and told to you before the visit. Nothing about price is left to the explanation of benefits.
Meet for the full hour
The first appointment is 60 minutes on your history, your health, and your medication record, ending in a plan. Follow-ups are 30 minutes of measurement and adjustment.
Cost and coverage
What it costs, and what your plan covers
The first appointment is a 60-minute Comprehensive Initial Appointment at $350. Follow-up Appointments run 30 minutes at $250 each. Most patients here use insurance: copays are typically $0 to $40, and your coverage and your exact cost are verified before your first visit, so the number is known before you commit to anything. In network: Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, the Blue Cross Blue Shield family, Oscar, Oxford, Carelon, and Providence, plus Medicare in Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas, and Utah, and Medicaid in Oregon and Wyoming. Care is by secure telehealth in 34 states plus DC, for ages 17 and up. You can book here, or call (800) 303-3221.
