Coverage: UnitedHealthcare in New York
Medication management in New York, in network with UnitedHealthcare.
New Yorkers with UnitedHealthcare coverage can receive psychiatric medication management here, by secure telehealth, anywhere in the state. If your behavioral health paperwork names Optum instead, that is the same benefit: Optum administers mental health coverage for many UnitedHealthcare plans, and this practice is in network with UnitedHealthcare and Optum. Your plan is verified and your cost stated before the first visit.
PsychMed Care is the medication management practice of Solutions Psychiatry. If you are looking for therapy, or therapy and medication together, the full practice is at psych.us.
What in network means here
Why your UnitedHealthcare plan mentions Optum
It is a reasonable confusion: the card says one company, the mental health directory says another. Both are part of the same group, and the behavioral health side is where this practice's contract sits.
The two-name setup
UnitedHealthcare issues your plan. Optum, its sister company, administers behavioral health benefits for many UnitedHealthcare plans, which is why Optum appears on directories and explanations of benefits. In network here means contracted with UnitedHealthcare and Optum.
Verified before the first visit
When you book, your specific plan is checked, and your copay or deductible position is stated before the appointment. If a plan cannot be verified, you are told plainly, and the self-pay rates are the fallback, published rather than improvised.
Copay, after the deductible question
Typical in-network copays run $0 to $40 per visit. Some plans place a deductible ahead of the copay, so early visits bill at the contracted rate. Verification answers the question for your plan, with figures, before visit one.
Reviewed as one list, not five
Your psychiatric medicines are read alongside your blood pressure pills, your sleep aids, and everything else with your name on the label, because interactions do not respect specialty lines. Labs, when a decision needs them, are drawn at any lab near you.
If things reach the point of thoughts of harming yourself, help is available now: call or text 988, text HOME to 741741 for Crisis Text Line, or call the NAMI Helpline at 1-800-950-6264. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. This practice is not an emergency service. The crisis page lists more options.
Care in New York
Statewide care, no statewide commute
The five boroughs hold the office, not the practice. Care runs by secure video to every county in New York State, so a patient in Plattsburgh and a patient in Brooklyn get the same prescriber and the same hour. In-person visits, when federal or DEA requirements call for one, happen at 276 Fifth Ave Suite 604 in New York City and are arranged with you well ahead of time. Your prescriber is Dr. Karel Winner, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University and a graduate degree in education from Vanderbilt University.
How it starts
Three steps to the first visit
Your cost is the middle step, stated before the appointment, not discovered after it.
Pick a time
Book online or by phone, with your insurance details included so verification can run.
Your plan is verified
UnitedHealthcare or Optum coverage, copay, and deductible are confirmed and stated before the visit.
The first appointment
Sixty minutes on your history, your health, and the full medication record, ending in a written plan and a target. Follow-up Appointments run 30 minutes and track the measures that plan set.
Cost and coverage
What it costs, and what your plan covers
Care starts with a 60-minute Comprehensive Initial Appointment at $350, and Follow-up Appointments run 30 minutes at $250 each. Insurance usually carries most of that: copays are typically $0 to $40, and your coverage and your exact cost are verified before your first visit, so the figure is settled before anything is scheduled on its strength. In network: Aetna, Cigna and Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, the Blue Cross Blue Shield family, Oscar, Oxford, Carelon, and Providence. Visits are by secure telehealth in 34 states plus DC, for ages 17 and up. You can book here, or call (800) 303-3221.
